7 Things to Consider Before Purchasing Model Ship Kits

Monday, December 31st, 2007

By Whozylee Aris Whenever you make any purchase it is important to take into account what you are buying. Whether buying for yourself or for someone else as a gift, you should examine your options and think through what you would like to buy. Purchasing model ship kits is no different. Additionally, because model ship kits can be rather expensive, it is sometimes even more important for you to carefully consider your options before committing to one kit or another. Here are some things to consider before you spend your money on a model ship kit. Budget. This is always the first consideration whenever you buy anything, including model ship kits. Because there are kits that cost tens of thousands of dollars as well as those that cost less than $100, it is important to know how much you are willing to spend. Skill Level. Different model ship kits are for people of different skill levels. Make sure you know whether you need a beginner, intermediate, or advanced kit before you buy. It is not so bad to give one that is below level, but the results can be devastating when the skill level is too advanced. Motorized or Not. Some model ship kits come with motors so that they can self-propel through the water. These can be expensive to fuel and maintain, so make sure you understand what is involved before purchasing a motorized ship. Time Period. There are ships from many different time periods. Model ship kits offer a wide range of time periods in the history of sea travel. If you or someone you are buying for has a preference, you should make sure that the kit you purchase meets that preference. Specific Ship. Not only is it possible to buy model ship kits that fit a time period, but it is also possible to build replicas of ships that actually existed (or still do). So find out whether you or your friend needs a certain ship for a collection, and then buy that ship. Quality. If you are concerned about quality, make sure that you purchase your model ship kits from a reputable company. There are plenty of hobby shops and online kit purveyors that can help you find a good quality ship, often at good prices. Support. The best hobby shops and other sellers of model ship kits offer support and advice. Some even offer warrantees on their products. If you are looking for good service, make sure you purchase your kit from a company that provides support and help from professionals. Whozylee Aris is a great admirer of model ships. Fall Autumn Color - American Beech

Saturday, December 29th, 2007

By Paul Wonning Fagus grandifoloaFamily - Fagus - Beech With the exception of Florida and northern Maine, the American Beech inhabits forests in the entire eastern portion of North America east of the Mississippi River. The fall leaves turn a golden yellow. The leaves, especially on younger trees, are retained into winter. The golden brown of these leaves, combined with the soft, gray color of the smooth bark creates a wonderland effect in the freshly fallen snows of early winter. American Beech is at its best, attaining its largest sizes in the Ohio River and Mississippi River Valleys. Beech nuts mature in the autumn and form the diets of a great variety of woodland creatures. The nuts are rich in oil, and are eaten in great quantities by wild turkeys, squirrels and chipmunks, and many different types of birds. The trees will grow to over one hundred feet tall. American Beech is a fairly slow growing tree, with a close grained wood. Barrels, tool handles and some furniture is constructed from it. The deciduous leaf is simple, dagger shaped and lightly toothed. The bark is a smooth gray, affording a great surface for vandals to deface the tree with graffiti. This should not be done, as it is very injurious to a valuable wildlife tree. Not only is the American Beech one of the most beautiful deciduous trees found in the woodland, for various reasons it is a valuable tree for wildlife, too. The small nuts are nutritious food for many different types of animals and birds. The trees frequently become hollow with age, providing many animals winter shelter within the warmness of its trunk. 2006Paul Wonning is the owner of Gardens and Nature.com a web site about gardening, hiking and other nature related topics. Media’s Dirty Little Secret

Friday, December 28th, 2007

By Chuck McKay Im constantly amazed by all of the media reps from all of the different media outlets that can help your advertising to reach the right people. Why am I amazed? Because they all reach the same people. Dont believe me? Start with radio - theres more information available, and the radio reps are eager to share it. Ask em for exclusive cume figures. (Cume is the cumulative total of different people who tune in to the station each week. Exclusive cumes are people who dont listen to any other radio station). Youll find, as I have, that the exclusive percentage is usually around 3% - 4%. Occasionally youll find a truly unique format, like Christian, or Classical, or Korean. In these situations you may find exclusive cumes as high as 15%. But as rare as those formats are, exclusivity is even more rare. Television? TV is harder to demonstrate, since people tend to watch programs instead of stations. However, that fact alone should make my case. No television station ever has an exclusive audience. Newspapers? Not them either. And not outdoor, or cable, or point of purchase, or specialty advertising (like calendars or pens or Rubic’s Cubes with your name on em). Nope. Absolutely no medium, absolutely no media outlet, has an exclusive hold on the right people. With only minor variations, everyone is reaching the same audience. According to Wizard of Ads research, approximately 70% of all of the radio stations in America, for instance, are suitable for advertising whatever you offer. And yet, we keep listening to the Weve got the right people pitch. We want to believe it. We want to believe that just a simple minor modification to what were already doing will make us incredibly successful. We have a great offer. We just need to reach the right people. So we let the media reps perpetuate this nonsense. We should hold them accountable for consultation on improving the impact of our messages. Instead, we let them convince us that folks who read their newspaper, or watch their TV station, or listen to their radio station, or view their outdoor ads are the right people. And theyre wrong. No need to fuss at em. Most are just repeating what theyve been told. But they are wrong, none the less. They dont have a lock on the right people. They share the right people with every other media outlet in town. Please dont misunderstand. Im not saying that it doesnt matter where you place your ads. It does matter. But not for the reason youve grown accustomed to hearing. It matters because one exposure to an ad almost never leads to a sale. Regardless of the medium you choose, your ad needs to be repeated a number of times each week to make acceptable impact. The correct media outlets are those that allow you enough exposures while staying within your budget. In other words: the less expensive choices. They may well be the smallest media outlets in the market. Can you reach enough people this way? You tell me. How many additional sales each week do you need to reach your goal? Ten? Fifty? If you get the same response as direct mail and most internet sites, about two percent of the audience will purchase. So for ten additional sales, you need to reach an audience of only 500. Is there a newspaper that doesnt reach 500 people? A radio station? A billboard? A cable tv system? For fifty more sales youll need an audience of only 2,500 assuming that your offer interests them. It pretty much always costs less to reach 2,500 potential customers twenty times, than to reach 50,000 once. And as we said, very few things will sell on the strength of a single exposure to your ad. Face it. Ninety-eight percent of the people in any audience have minimal interest in what youre selling. How do you reach the two percent who are interested? You write better ads. Then you put those ads into an efficient media buy. You write ads that appeal to the right people. But thats a subject for another time. Free Diet Programs: Dangers To Avoid

Tuesday, December 25th, 2007

By Ethan Allen You’ve finally decided to put the time, energy and motivation into losing a few pounds. You know it’s been a long time coming and you might even be feeling a little desperate. Along with time and money being tight, you may be tempted to find a free diet program to join and follow to help you reach your weight loss goals. If this is the case, read on to discover several dangers to avoid. Danger Number One: Safety Especially if you are doing your diet and weight loss research on the internet, you may come across many free programs that are filled with amazing claims and testimonials from others who have succeeded with the program. As in all things though, buyer beware. Keep in mind, the nature of the internet allows anyone to post information. For example, a free diet program posted on a forum by someone who supposedly lost many pounds quickly could just as easily be a made up story. The point is, be sure to check with your doctor or health practitioner before trying out any free diet or weight loss program you come across. Don’t let the desire to slim down override your common sense. Your body’s health and safety are much more important than that! Danger Number Two: Effectiveness Make sure you know your own weight loss needs and expectations before you start researching diet programs. Some programs are great for taking off a few pounds fast, others work better for slowly bring your body down to the weight you desire and helping to maintain it at that point. Check to see that the program matches your needs and remember that every person will likely have different results from the same diet. Remember that the claims and testimonials for any one program are likely to be taken from just a small and select group of people who had extraordinary results. Do not set your expectations too high, or you will likely be let down. Danger Number Three: The Backend The saying “nothing in life is free” often applies to so-called “free” diet programs as well. Make sure to read the fine print before signing up for any program. Often, the initial part of the program is free, but you’ll soon find that the company tries to backend you with other related products and services at a premium price. Some companies even use a free diet program offer just to generate leads of desperate people and then go after them continually with a very hard sell approach, targeting their insecurities about their weight, to get them to spend money. When you’re considering a free diet program, please take the above into consideration first. Take the time to honestly examine your weight loss goals and expectations before following any fad diet. Quite possibly, a simple regimen of diet and exercise prescribed by your physician might be the cheapest and most effective way to go. If you are taking your diet program seriously, make sure to check out the top weightloss site fitness calculators at http://www.the-weightloss-guide.com right away. 3 Principals That Will Keep a Long Lasting Relationship

Monday, December 24th, 2007

By Entjik Jeffrie Many of us have had a broken heart and hurt feeling because the relationship that we had didn’t work out. It’s ok, we are not made to be a perfect human being but we can learn from our experience and move on toward our future. We make mistakes, we learn and we move on. You can’t do anything about your past, it is over, but you can do something about your future by what you do today! Please keep these principals in mind the next time you start a new relationship with somebody new! These principals will work most of the time and you will see the difference in your current relationship and future relationship if you dont have anybody right now, listen. Principal number 1, you must forget the past! Especially your past ex-husband, ex-wife, ex-boyfriend, ex-girlfriend, and so on! I have seen this happening over and over again. How a boyfriend talks about his ex-girlfriends every day to his new girlfriend! He keeps discussing about his past with his new girlfriend. Let get this straight and let me be firm for a moment, listen to this, You cant drive and go forward very fast when you keep looking at the rear-view mirror! Stop it, quit talking about your past, its done, its finished, and you cant do anything to bring it back! Its done! Its over! The current person who is with you is now more important than the ones in the past! If youre still holding on to the past, I suggest that you are not qualified to have a new relationship! If you cant respect the person who is being with you today, youre not qualified to be in a relationship with him or her! Instead, talk about your future plan together with the person whom youre being with. Talk about your dreams and goals with him/her together. What you would do together in the future and so on. The future is more exciting than the past, because you still have the chance to get in by what you do today! Principal number 2, you must learn to forgive! Forgive, forgive, forgive and forgive! None of us are perfect in this world. None of us and every time when we drive on the freeway, sometimes we too make mistakes and we hope that other drivers to forgive our stupidity. I talked to a friend of mine who broke up with her boyfriend. She told me I had given him 3 chances, to put the toilet paper at the right position, but its strike 3, its over man! The man was very nice, but apparently he likes to face the tip of the toilet paper facing the wall. That really irritated her. Plus he didnt like to eat what she likes to eat. Somebody asked me this question, How about if he is very abusive and not loyal? My answer was If someone loves you and respect you, he will never abuse you and be disloyal! The fact that he is abusive, rude, disloyal and disrespectful; its the sign that there is no love for you in his heart! To love somebody is to build someone up, support, respect, be loyal, and honor and cherish the other person. Learn to forgive the little things in life, because the little things are the ones that usually get into people. Learn to talk to each other without blaming attitude. No body likes to be blamed or condemned. Learn to say thing with kindness, patient and loving attitude. A kind word is an unkind word unsaid. Principal number 3, you must have honesty and integrity in your relationship with him or her. There shouldnt be any relationship that is based on lies and dishonestly. Sooner or later what youve been covering will be revealed. There is nothing more irritating than when you find somebody is lying to you. It hurts you, you feel betrayed and it destroys all the trust you have for the other person. The proof of love is pursuit, also the ability to respect the trust that the other person is giving to us. If you cant trust a person, I dont think, you should have any romantic relationship with him/her. Trust is gained through time, it is like putting a coin in the piggy bank, when you do something that will increases the trust that someone has for you, you add another coin to the bank, and when you do something dishonest and break the trust that someone has for you, you withdraw the coin out of your bank. If you keep withdrawing it, soon you wont have any coin left. You wont have anybody trusting you! Once you gain the trust that is given to you by the other person, try to keep it sacred and never ever take it for granted. If someone thinks that he/she can get away with cheating, that person is a foolish person. I hope this helps. I wish you the best in your current relationship and to find the right person for your life. Remember this, a good communication and true love is like a treasure in every relationship. True love casts away fear, therefore when we feel secured and safe with the person that youre with, you will have a long lasting relationship. The right words said in the wrong time will become the wrong words. (C) Copyright Pebden.com 2005, Author: Entjik Jeffrie, All Rights Reserved. Hoodia Gordonii-Why All the Excitement?

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Tim Grimsley Hoodia Gordonii has taken the weight loss industry by storm. Hoodia is a plant that grows in the Kalahari desert, it is becoming extremely popular as a weight loss supplement. In the United States, millions of diet pills containing Hoodia are being sold every week. The popularity is not only in the U.S., it is worldwide. Users of the Hoodia supplement are reporting major weight loss totals and claim they have no hunger pangs. Some reports are coming in of people losing up to 100 pounds in 6 months on the Hoodia supplement. These types of testimonials are driving the market for Hoodia increasingly higher each day. There are essentially 3 reasons that Hoodia has become so popular. 1. Appetite suppressant- Hoodia is legendary for it ability to suppress the appetite. African bushmen have used it for over 1,000 years to suppress their appetite while on extended hunting trips. In some cases they would go a few days without eating after taking the plant, to control there hunger. Of course weight loss was not the primary goal for these bushmen, They were essentially taking it out of necessity because regular food may have been scarce. 2. Hoodia is all natural with no known side effects. To date, no study conducted has found Hoodia to have any harmful side effects. We know from history that the bushmen have taken it for centuries. They also have not had any harmful side effects. This is a definite advantage that Hoodia has over other recent supplements. The fact that Hoodia has no known harmful side effects makes it appealing to dieters. 3. A general feeling of well being. Hoodia has been reported by some to produce a general feeling of well being. This may actually be part of what makes it so effective. Researchers believe that this feeling of well being may contribute to dieters avoiding binge eating. Binge eating is often attributed to depression or boredom. A feeling of well being may help fight these feelings. These factors have all played a role in the growing popularity of Hoodia Gordonii as a diet aid. If you are interested in losing weight look into Hoodia today. Selecting A Wedding Photographer — Ten Top Tips To Find Your Ideal Photographer

Saturday, December 22nd, 2007

By Andy Needham Selecting a wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you have to make as you complete the preparations for your wedding. This is because it is the role of the wedding photographer to capture the joy and excitement of the day. Once the cake has been eaten, the guests have gone home and the honeymoon is over it is the album of wedding photographs that will always be there to help the happy memories come flooding back. One problem is there are so many wedding photographers to choose from. All offer a slightly different service and most charge quite different prices too. To try and help you make the right choice for your big day I have put together a selection of tips to point you in the right direction. 1. Insist on meeting the photographer who will be photographing your wedding. Some companies will send a salesman or senior photographer. When making an appointment double check and make sure you will be meeting the photographer who is going to shoot your wedding. After all what will happen if you find out on the day that you don’t like him or her! 2. Ask to see complete wedding albums. If someone has been photographing weddings for even a year or two the chances are that they can scrape together enough shots to produce a good portfolio. Insist on seeing complete albums from recent weddings. 3. Find out exactly what is included in the price. If they tell you that you will get a particular album make sure they show you the album itself. Do not let them show you the best album they have and tell you your one will be similar. Make sure you are satisfied with the one you will be given. 4. Make sure the price they quote includes everything. You do not want to find out later that prints costs more money, you have to pay travel expenses, VAT or other taxes were not included, a CD of images costs more or even that you have to pay the postage. Get a full quotation in writing. 5. Check that they can shoot the style of wedding photographs you want. If you would like a modern reportage style, do not take it for granted that the photographer can do this just because they take good traditional style shots and vice versa. 6. If you have ideas of your own then discuss them with the photographer well ahead of committing yourself to them. This helps you to avoid disappointment later. A good photographer will always be able to incorporate your own ideas into the day. 7. Ask for referrals and check them out. A photographer with a string of happy clients will be only too happy to let other people confirm their abilities. 8. Discuss the back up equipment they use. For example if they do not carry a spare camera and the one they are using breaks down then there will be no pictures! 9. Check to see if they have covered a wedding at the venue before. If they have not, find out if they will visit the venue beforehand. If they do then this should get them a tick in the box as being someone prepared to go the extra mile. 10. Make time to see more than one photographer. Choosing the right wedding photographer is one of the most important decisions you make. Choose the wrong one and you cannot rerun the day and try again! This article was provided by Andy Needham of http://www.photographers.co.uk. Photographers.co.uk has a directory of photographers, galleries, forum, market place, tips and Wedding Service. If you are getting married in the U.K. and would like some help to find your wedding photographer why not try the Photographers.co.uk Wedding Service. Student Savings: Save Paper, Save Money

Friday, December 21st, 2007

By Morgan James Did you know that North American academics are among the highest paper wasters in the world? If academics in China used as much paper as we do in North America, the worlds rainforest supply would be depleted within a year. You can choose to save paper, which is not only good for the environment, its also good for your wallet. 1. Double side everything. Whether you are printing the profs powerpoint notes to take to lecture, or printing off an essay to proofread, always double side your paper. Keeping a tray of rough paper that you can print on the back of will definitely save you money. And, as an added tip for printing off powerpoint presentation slides, try printing more than one slide per page. Often 8 slides per pages is a good size, but try to find the size that works for you. 2. Be creative. Its amazing how many handouts you get in class that you dont even need. Perhaps the department requires that every single class hand out the plagiarism policy. Now you have five copies of the plagiarism policy, and nothing to do with them. Instead of simply throwing them out, you can also use this paper to print on! Every department in a college has boards filled with paper. Often these are concert notices, upcoming conferences, or visiting lecturers. You can make it your job to help keep the departmental notice boards clean by taking down the notices that have passed their dates. You can then keep and print on this paper. Sometimes you get the best colours to print on this way! 3. Use a computer. The more work that you can do onscreen, the less paper you will have to print. You will definitely have to print out your papers to do a final hard-copy proofread before you hand them in, but you dont need to print out endless drafts of the same paper. Often, you can also email certain documents to your friends and classmates instead of printing them out. Instead of printing 30 handouts for your seminar presentation, email the handout to the class a few days before you present. This will save you the printing and photocopying costs. Be sure to email the handouts out at least two days before you present, however. You want to give your classmates enough time to read and print your material. 4. Work with your prof. Some professors accept green submissions. (Here you can think of green as in saving the environment, and green as in saving you the cash in your wallet). This means that they will accept work that is printed off doublesided, or on the backs of different work. You should always ask before you submit your essay, however. Whatever the prof wants is paramount. Also, if you are giving the prof work with stuff on the back, make sure that it is something you dont mind your professor seeing! Some professors also permit electronic submissions, which will also save you paper and ink. 5. Shop around. Sometimes you come across something that you absolutely must photocopy or print. Check out the area around the university for the cheapest printing and photocopying. It probably wont be on campus, and it probably wont be a big chain like Kinkos. Youll want to find a small photocopying place, and often you can get your copies for as cheap as 3 or 4 cents. Sometimes convenience stores even have well-priced photocopiers. 6. Think of subsidies. Particularly if you are a graduate student, you might be able to print your work at school in the department for a greatly reduced rate, or even for free sometimes. Sometimes services on campus allow members cheap printingplaces such as the Womens Center or the International Students Committee. If you are considering joining, or if you are already a member, take advantage of what you can. The best way to find out about deals like this is to attend information fairs and to ask people who have been on campus for a few years. 7. Remember the costs. Sometimes printing at home is cheaper. Sometimes printing at school is cheaper. And generally photocopying is cheaper than printing. Often you will have a choice of what way to get your material printed, so choose the best one. And remember: you dont have to always print on white paper. Plain lined paper (even the cheap stuff) prints fine on a computer as well. You can save yourself money, and feel good about saving the environment by saving paper. Its just one way to minimize the costs of your already expensive education. The Power of Focus

Wednesday, December 19th, 2007

By Bette Daoust, Ph.D. How do you create focus with a business card? Focus on one thing at a time will yield better results when you attend a networking event. Using your business card effectively is the key to being noticed at any event. Most people at an event will be exchanging cards and most cards will be printed in the same fashion. Either they will be white with the logo and contact information, or they will be too busy to read at a glance. Somehow you have to make your card more noticeable than the others. When I was working exclusively for Power Marketing, I used their card. The card was professionally done with a great logo and design. The card itself caused people to say, Wow what a great looking card! That alone made me very happy. The back of the card contained more of the design but still allowed the recipient enough space to write comments or notes. I always make first contact after a networking event, and I still got comments about the card: what a lasting impression it made! Your card is your introduction and if you look at the way business is done in Japan, the business card is not just a calling card, it is a presentation. They take time to honor your card and honor you as well in doing so. The card is a reflection of who you are. The exchange of cards usually means that they are interested in doing business with you. In America we pass out so many cards that we often do not know who has them. I always keep track of who has my card and when they received it. Guess what: when I change companies or my card is updated, I have a ready-made list of contacts that will receive the new information. Its a great way to increase the number of touch-points. The information on your card is just as important as the card itself. You must make sure that any web information is on the card. That means your website address and an email address. Without it, the card may be tossed! You are after ways to gain business relationships not cause aggravation. Bette Daoust, Ph.D. has been networking with others since leaving high school years ago. Realizing that no one really cared about what she did in life unless she had someone to tell and excite.
